The Sirens Cry

Ok. So this isn't really poetry but it's still something to read!  I wrote this for Gepard's competition. Enjoy!

The Sirens Cry

The lonely boat swayed and rocked as the waves crashed over the wooden deck. The rigging, tattered and torn moaned as the wind howled across the lake. Minutes before screams and panicked voices rent the air as the swarms of downtrodden humanity clung to the remains of the boat before being taken by silence beneath the scarlet water. Slowly the charred remains of the ship sank into the bloody waters leaving only a crimson froth of bubbles to disturb the now placid lake. Two beings shrouded in a ghostly green glow dived swiftly towards their monstrous feast, as they laughed in unison, a high cruel sound that sent shivers into the hearts of the corpses that lay in a ghastly multitude beneath the death drenched mere.

Time and time again, the two sirens feasted upon the blood filled waters of the putrid lake, calling victims from afar with a beautiful song, which bewitched the minds of all who heard it, with equal parts of grief and joy and the hearts deepest desire. And as their suppers looked upon the faces of the stunning, imperial divinities, fear quelled them as they changed, fangs erupting from their pale green lips, eyes flashing with bloodlust, and as the two sirens shrieked as one, the dignity gone, only a severe, animal madness etched upon their ivy features, they swooped down upon the screaming mortals until their blood flowed like wine, staining the lake with ruby clouds, a cacophony of utter pain.

Deep beneath the Siren’s Lake, guarded by armies of the dead, lay a small red stone, hidden beneath a sea of yellowing bones and rotting flesh. The lake itself was treacherous and hidden, surrounded by a ring of icy peaks that speared the gloomy skies. This stone, was spoken  of in hallowed whispers, long lost, yet yearned for by many. None had ever returned from this abandoned wasteland, home of the Sirens. None except for one, a person known as Sam Willows.

Sam Willow woke up from his nightmare, and shivered violently, as the vision seared through his mind in garish detail.
 “The Revival Stone”
At last he knew where to find the object of his quest, what he had to do, what he must face.
Sam Willows knew he must seek out this ghostly lake of the Sirens and brave its cold, black depths. Sam Willows knew that he must face the Sirens and capture the stone. For Tommy.
Salty tears streamed down his face as the thought of his friend entered his mind. He remembered what Tommy had become and hoped for his return to humanity.

Sam stood on the slimy pebbled shore as two green streaks of light danced through the misty sky, in anticipation of their feast. And as they dived, they noticed a tall, dark figure, watching their dance. Curiosity showed in their glowing emerald eyes, quickly replaced with horror and then a strange infusion of hunger and contempt. As they sped towards Sam Willows, they laughed together, cruel, high and mocking, yet Sam showed no outward sign of fear. The Sirens spoke in unison, a hissing, discordant noise yet under lied by an ethereal, otherworldly melody   as if a choir of thousands of voices were singing a song of grief, despair and deepest desire.

“Sam Willows”

“We know who you are and what it is you so foolishly seek”

The hairs on the back of Sam’s neck, prickled with anxiety.
“Yet we guard the Revival Stone and none shall steal it from us”

“So it has been for ages past and so it shall be for centuries to come”

The Sirens were now spiralling around Sam, their scaly, taloned bodies, entwining and interlacing in a frenzy of anger and lust.

“Dare to plunge beneath the waves and you shall be DEVOURED!”

The Siren’s dance had reached a climax, saliva dripping from their fangs, the otherworldly choir moaning in ecstasy as the Siren’s embraced each other in a tempest of passion, blood and rage, as their forked tongues, reached out towards Sam, tasting the air, the fear emanating from him. The Siren’s reached out towards Sam, to feast and to ravage, to clutch him in their deadly embrace.

Yet Sam Willows had slipped away into the murky waters of the lake, into the darkness and the clammy mournful world of corpses and decay, towards the red gleam of the Revival Stone.

Sam’s lungs were burning as his brain screamed for oxygen, as the corpses rose up from their watery grave. They grasped weakly at him, trying to pull him down into the chilling, dark depths. Faces of men, women and children drifted past Sam in a blur of confusion. Blackness started to descend over his vision, obscuring the green light that was growing brighter and the white blobs of the corpses, and pain erupted through his right hand as he brushed against something small, smooth and round.  As Sam fell into unconsciousness, he gripped tightly onto the Revival Stone as the Sirens lifted him out of the lake and began to feast.

The Gentle Assassin

This is a poem for Rosella. I hope you enjoy it despite it's heartwrenching effect.

I've been doing so much work and yes I think I may be verging on depression but poetry is my outlet and so this happens. I'll stop wittering on and just post the thing.

The Gentle Assassin

A young girl laughs
Running through the sunshine
Through golden dancing motes of dust
She sprawls upon her bed
And stares up at the paper on the ceiling
Written in flowing flowery script
In thick gold ink
A poem
“Golden God”

Rosella weeps then cries with joy
At the magic on her ceiling
A work by the Purple Poet
How she adores him, longs for his praise
Even to glimpse him, meet him, know him
Would overflow her heart with wonder
And she waits for her own piece of awe
Taken from the cloths of heaven
By the Purple Poet

The Gentle Assassin
Running through the rain
As drops of grey soak her matted brown hair
And gleam in the dual orbs of a storm tossed sea
The single black rose
Shines darkly in the ghostly moonlight
She spots her victim
Unaware of his impending demise
She casually plucks a spinning star of silver and death
And strikes

Time slows
A figure in violet robes
Jumps in front of her victim
A crimson stain blossoms from his wrinkled chest
His face full of pain and dismay
As he seeks out the Gentle Assassin
Time fragments into sharp moments of confusion
The tear rolling down his eye
The ever growing pool of redness staining the earth
The flash of silver submerged deep in his flesh
The single black rose

Rosella stares at the Purple Poet in shock
She weeps over his body
Tears mingling with the ebbing life force
Splattered over the ground
His breath comes in short bursts
He mutters a word
“Rosella”
I’m sorry I never found the time
Remember me when I am gone away
Then a last froth filled gasp
And silence

Rosella Embers
Sits unmoving by her Purple Poet
As the single black rose falls
The petals disintegrating into nothing
She remembers the young girl
Laughing through the swirling golden reams
Of diamond dust
Picks up her silver star
Closes her eyes
Makes her choice.

The Loss of Hiashiness

This is a second poem for Mary Hiashi. I'm glad you poured out your heart to us and I hope that this counts as a little bit of wisdom from some one else. I believe that this poem will strike a chord with your feelings in some form and help you in some way. Enjoy.

The Loss of Hiashiness

I used to have ambitions
I had hopes and goals and dreams
But my dreams remain unfinished
And my hopes are just extremes.

My wishes are impossible
I long for childish things
And for people to respect me
And to fly with golden wings.

For life it seems so drab and grey
You work then breathe your last
For the future came to nothing
But a wistful broken past.

I used to think I’m special
In a way that I could be
More important than diamonds
More powerful than the sea

But the nightmares overcame me
With my fears and tears and screams
Crushing all of my ambitions
Whilst reality quells my dreams

And I wonder why my family
Ignores my own belief
Why don’t they accept me... well as me?
Why cause me pain and grief.

My soul is shattered
My minds breaks
My body yearns
My heart aches

For you’ve asked the greatest question
Which is simply labelled Why?
What’s the point at all in living
When eventually you die.

For humanity is temporary
And all things end with time
And this knowledge is our burden
We perceive it as a crime

Does the universe have meaning?
Only if you give it one
If nobody appreciates it
Why has it begun?

Nature’s only beautiful
When viewed by human eyes
Unobserved it comes to nothing
As do clouds in endless skies

For life has deeper meaning
We can learn and we can love
We can try to create order
From the chaos far above

Why we live I do not know
But there is fun and laughter
And I don’t think that it matters
To the happily ever after

Life is meant for living
So enjoy its little treasures
Such as humour and surprises
And manifold other pleasures

Such as poetry and literature
And your own imagination
The sunshine and the crystal rain
A starry constellation

So treasure every moment
For life keeps moving on
And the Earth will keep on spinning
Long, long after you are gone

You dream a dream of impossible things
But at least you dream at all
And hope still burns inside you
Though the candle may be small

You are special, you have purpose
And I wish you “Blessed be”
You are loved and you’re befriended
You’re Miss Mary Hiashi

The Nightmare Child

This poem is random and I hope creepy. The idea of it freaks me out although the freaky feeling doesn't seem to have made it from the idea to the poem. But if it has then don't blame me for any emotional scarring recieved. Enjoy!

The Nightmare Child

It roams across the galaxy
Devouring planets and civilizations
A giant sentient weapon
A horror, a freak
A remnant of a long forgotten war

 Some call it the Destroyer
Others the Abomination
Few call it the Deplorable Being
But most call it the Nightmare Child

Vaguely humanoid but nothing like
A mutant experiment, abandoned by both sides
Born from rage, insanity, fire and fear
Still it wreaks havoc amongst the stars

A monstrous creation from hatred and grief
From ice and death, pitch and madness
When it approaches, it fills the endless skies
Its tears of blood fall as rain
Bringing pure unadulterated fear and anguish
Terror, pain and nightmares in its wake

A portent of cataclysmic doom
Of ravaging wars
A sign of silver devastation
Mutually assured destruction
The deep dark depths of oblivion
Of the end of everything
The rise of nothing

Part flesh, part shadow
A fusion of innocence and darkness
It rots and oozes
Pallid, pale and clammy,
It hides in the shadows
Screaming an eerie, shrill cry
Of loneliness and abandonment

Its face is hideous beyond description
Scarred and ripped
A leering gash across its face acts as a mouth
Empty eye sockets weep with yellow pus
Teeth filed to needle points
Slits in the head form a nose
And from the jaws of the Nightmare Child a stench of decay
Of oozing blackness, warm fetid death, gloam and evil

The expression of tiredness, drawn, pinched and reproachful
A longing to belong, of loneliness and bewilderment
Are beyond the human mind to bear, to comprehend, to even see
And all are driven to despair who enter its gaping jaws.

It was there at the fall of Arcadia
The death of the Could Be King
A five year old child, murdering millions
Unaware of the specks of life perishing
As it explores the universe, inquisitive, distressed
Lonely.

The Nightmare Child
Soulless, friendless, without love or joy
The shadows writhe and squirm around its malleable grey bones
Through the gaping holes in its body
An impossible thing
To terrible to conceive
The fabric of nightmares.

Armies of Radiance

Another month of nothing from Octaboona has ended. But don't fear! For I've finally written Pyro his poem. And yes I was very nice about you. Enjoy.

Armies of Radiance

A shadowy figure stands on high
A black silhouette against the crimson sky
Looking down over his teeming armies
As dawn appears in amber brilliance
The deep red orb of a giant sun
Bursts through the horizon
Rays of orange and bronze
Fall upon the Master of the Sands
Pyro Dawn Tyromant. Lord of the Armies of the Desert Sun

A shining being of gleaming copper
With skin of a golden glow
Supreme Eminence over his shifting multitudes
Spirits of sand and men of dust
Forming an unfathomable storm
They strip the moisture from the very air
As their desert realm encroaches upon the plains
At their head a metal deity of amber, bronze and spiralling yellow
A dazzling corona surrounds him
Pyro Dawn Tyromant. Lord of the Armies of the Desert Sun.

A proud and arrogant leader
A Blaze of Radiance
Twin torrents of fire stream from his gauntleted hands
Burning their way through the cerulean heavens
Clouds of crackling white lightning
Rotate far above in a flame filled inferno
And in the epicentre of the power and madness
A tempest of soldiers, sand men, sphinxes
Stretch from coast to coast in a choking cloud
Ready to roll at the will of
Pyro Dawn Tyromant. Lord of the Armies of the Desert Sun.

In the midst of the cacophony
In the heart of the star
In the jaws of the Nightmare Child
Lies the brightest jewel, the bravest man, commander of the dunes
King of the Wilder west
He hovers in his harsh rage filled dreams
An aura of corrosive steam
A halo of plummeting stars
Encircle the god from the core of the earth
Pyro Dawn Tyromant. Lord of the Armies of the Desert Sun.

Servant to Serum

This poem was written for Lizzy. I believe that even vampires have a softer side although they keep it hidden. Enjoy!

Servant to Serum

She wandered through the frosted wood
With none to see her cry
Alone, and racked with grief beneath
A vast uncaring sky.

Servant of her serum
A crystal concoction of hemlock and wolf bane
Saturated with liquid sunlight
To mask the vampire curled sleeping within
That rises with the coming of the night.

Yet she is safe
The serum flows through her veins
Tranquilising her baser nature
Whilst the sun is sleeping

Lizzy weeps and slumps against a tree
Memories of last night’s horror
The red miasma in her brain
The innocent infant screaming in terror
 The sticky crimson blood
And the tiny head staring sightlessly
At its own half chewed body

Lizzy’s eyes well up once more
The sticky metallic tang of the blood
Never leaving her tongue or her nightmares
For that night she failed to serve the serum
And she fled with the darkness

Alone again, she drops the facade
Of ruthless civility
The steel glint fades from her eyes
As grief and horror rack her painfully thin body
The centuries fall away and the little girl is left
Before she became this heartless monster

Lizzy thinks of the words she would growl at her victims
“If you wish to die a horrible death, please, come closer”
And the outburst ceases
She regains her merciless personality
And vows never  again to disobey the serum
Lest she recovers her soul.

The Susurrus

This poem is for Hellboy and probably long overdue. I hope that it is even in the vicinity of your very high standards and that you enjoy it.

The Susurrus

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of heaven and hell

Hellboy seeks with his far seeing eyes
That see beyond the future
To the time on the Morpheus Road
Where the great multitudes swarm
He seeks out each individual’s path
And their deathly destination

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of life and death

He sees an ancient figure
Bound for the ethereal plains
Filled with wraiths and phantasms
That hide in the mists and vapours
That torment the mind with ghosts and memories
From ages past

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of anger and sorrow

Hellboy watches a young child
Stand alone in the Field of Asphodel
His identity already fading
His pale spirit merging with the others
Joining the repetitious cycle
In the dreary grey grass
Of eternal stillness and neutrality

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of silence and commotion

Hellboy shades his eyes from the bold man’s fate
Who lived a life of cruelty and malice
Turning others joys incarnadine
As he walks the way to Sheol
To be purged in unquenchable fire
And smell the stench of his own roasting flesh
And taste the bitter flavour of charred hair and blackened skin

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of laughter and hatred

Yet here on the Morpheus road he spots a kindly woman
Who will spend her after life in the Blest Isles of  Elysium
Safe from harm and suffering in an island of beauty paramount
Rewarded for her grace and virtue
She will find peace

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of war and peace

Yet few make the Blest Isles
Hellboy sighs
As the Road takes another victim
Destined for the dank dungeons of Niflhel
Where they will languish in the gloom
With slime brushed walls and dripping rocks
With only goats urine to sate their thirst

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of time and space

Far above the caves of Niflhel the sounds of feasting
Emanate from the Hall of Asgard
As a new arrival enters the Hall of Valhalla
To drink and feast in utmost luxury
Attended to by their personal Valkyrie
A mighty warrior devours a plump boar
As the mead flows freely

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of loneliness and companionship

The Pit of Tartarus
Hellboy shivers at the name
As he senses another soul
Enter oblivion
Tortured by beings greater than gods
Eyes stabbed out by mechanical men
The weeping sores oozing pus and blood
A plaything of Kronos

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of grief and comfort

Hellboy watches as another soul approaches the Pearly Gates
A convocation of angels in gold and white smile down
From the pure white banks of clouds that fill the pristine sky
An unearthly glow of majesty and splendour

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of order and chaos

The Five Rivers of Hades converge in a frothing torrent
Acheron- River of Sorrow
Cocytus- River of Lamentation
Phlegethon- River of Fire
Lethe- River of Oblivion
And Styx- River of Hate
They surround the Morpheus Road in swirling glory
In shades of darkest night to deepest crimson
And in the very centre of this quercivorous pool
With jet black obsidian shores
And amaranth tides
Stands a sentinel, a Silent One
Presiding over the multitude
Known only as Hellboy

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of air and fire

The sentinel looks out across the vast varied underworld
Yet fears to look into his own future
Or the core of his heart
He hears not the ringing for it is a knell
To summon him to heaven or to hell

A susurrus in the wind
A zephyr along the highway of humanity

Dance of the Deepwoods

I'm sorry for the poor 15 people who I  haven't yet written your poem yet. However I have written a poem about Kallista and I (inevitable really). I will get round to you I promise.

Dance of the Deepwoods

As the twinkling lights gleam in the indigo sky
A young couple twirl beneath the stars
Kallista and Octa sway in the moonlight
As the fairies look on enchanted

The glittering spires and minarets
Of the Shining City of Sanctaphrax glow
As the wind blows through the green smudge
Of the beautiful distant Deepwoods

Deep in the Deepwoods we dance
Through the scented meadow grass
Of the Silver Pastures
Where the wild tilder roam

We waltz with the majesty of kings
And the happiness of a young mother
Who smiles down at her new born babe
Who grips with tiny fingers at her hands

And still Octa and Kallista dream
As we swirl through the forests’ heart
Past the swift pristine waterfall
Of Riverrise

The natural splendour of The Edge
That juts out  like a prow of a ship
Into the dark forbidding void
Is full of life and shines like a beacon
Illuminating the way

And as we sway with the breeze
Round and round until Open Sky
We continue our happy happy dance
Safe in the knowledge that we always have
Each other.

Human Inferno

It's finally here! After over a month of being unable to write anything I have finally gained back some of my inspiration. So here is a poem I wrote for Leo Sparks. Or at least the evil version of him that I portray in the poem.

Human Inferno

A burning inferno
The flames lap against the golden skin
Sparks crackling and flying in perfect arcs
A fiery parabola of majesty
Yet deep in the core of the raging fire
In the bright white heart of the lightning
Is a man.

This unnatural being of human shape
Unscathed by the heat and the terrible power
The flesh uncharred, the hair untouched
The eyes sear with a blinding intensity
Globes of pure energy and magic
Windows to the soul of a god

Torrents of lightning erupt from his fingertips
Turning the clouds electric blue
As his body writhes with the pulses
That travel up and down his being

Sparks of deepest yellow play amongst his silky hair
Which stand on end in rigid splendour
And when he speaks the voice is harsh as the devastation
Left behind by ravenous beast he controls
Yet deeply alluring causing all who hear it to lust for his supremacy

He calls out his name to the world
“Leo Sparks”
And as the flames caress his body lovingly
Tenderly submitting to his might
A charred and blackened corpse
Ravaged by lightning, blistered and burnt
Falls from his arms

As the women let out her dying screams
Leo lapped at her life-force
And the flames grew a little brighter
And Leo a little taller and golden
And Leo smiled as another victim
Fell to his fiery charms.
